Harrassment and Violence in the Workplace
The Quebec Act respecting labour standards introduces, on June 1 2004, new standards pertaining to psychological harassment will be in force. They center on the right for all employees to benefit from a work environment free from harassment. Employers will be under the obligation to take all reasonable steps to prevent psychological harassment and, when such conduct is brought to their knowledge, to put a stop to it. The Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines et en relations industrielles agréés du Québec provides this site in order to promote a better understanding of Wokplace Violence including Psychological Harrassment.
Reasonable accommodations for people who have psychiatric disabilities
This site has examples of accommodation for people returning to work with a psychiatric disability. This Job Accommodation Network also contains info for accommodating people with physical disabilities. According to Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General, mental disorders are defined as "diagnosable conditions that impair thinking, feeling and behavior, and interfere with a person's capacity to be productive and enjoy fulfilling relationships." Some employers have the misperception that people who have disabilities are difficult to accommodate. However, this is not necessarily true. Accommodations are typically low cost and easy to implement. Data collected by the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), provides evidence that employers who have instituted accommodations for people with disabilities have benefited financially. Reports show that more than half of all accommodations cost less than $500 and that most employers report benefits in excess of $5,000.
Commission des normes de travail
