But how about the mental health of our institutions, and of our societies in which they are imbedded? Susan Mintzberg has spent decades in clinical work, and more recently doing research on the impact of collaboration and expertise in mental healthcare, with a focus on family caregivers. Henry Mintzberg has been studying and working with organizations, well and ill, for a long time, and now devotes his efforts to the imbalances is societies that are making so many of ourselves and our institutions ill. Their talk will discuss, on these three levels, why this is happening, and what we can do about it. |
2:30 pm – 3:30 pm | Dr. Chris Labos, MD, MSc-Associate The Tragic Myths about Vaccines Vaccines are probably one of the great public health achievements of the 20th century. They have saved, who knows how many lives over the past 50 years. And yet people are terrified of them. After having wiped out diseases like smallpox and polio, diseases on the verge of extinction like measles are making a comeback. In this presentation we will answer some of the common questions and concerns surrounding vaccination including mercury and other metals in vaccines, the threat of autism, why we vaccinate infants, and why alternative vaccine schedules are problematic. |
3:30 pm – 4:00 pm | Sandra Rinaldi, Certified Life Coach Conquering Anxiety: My Path to Inner Peace Sandra shares her 20-year struggle with anxiety disorder and how she overcame the darkest of moments battling her fears. She shares what brought her to seek inner peace, how she managed to conquer something she thought was impossible and the new perspectives that changed her life forever and for better. |

Vision of the future for McGill University
McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor Deep Saini
Professor Deep Saini began his term as the 18th Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University on April 1, 2023. A career academic and accomplished researcher in plant biology, Professor Saini brings a unique combination of national post-secondary experience with an international perspective. He most recently served as president of Dalhousie University in Canada and, prior to that, was vice-chancellor and president of the University of Canberra in Australia. Professor Saini had previously worked at four of Canada’s U15 universities, including as a vice-president of the University of Toronto and principal of its Mississauga campus, dean of the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo, and director general of the Plant Biology Research Institute at the Université de Montréal.
His awards and recognitions include honours from the Canadian Society of Plant Physiologists, Nanjing University, the Sikh Foundation of Canada, the Royal Society of New South Wales, the Punjab Academy of Sciences and the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce. He was featured in India Abroad’s “2011 Power List” and is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum and Diamond Jubilee Medals and the NRI Welfare Society of India Hind Rattan Award.
His leadership roles have included governance and advisory roles at national and international levels, presidencies of national professional societies, journal editorships, membership on national and international granting panels, international trade missions, and membership of the Executive Committee for the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities. He is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for Universities Canada since October 2023 and was, prior to that, Vice-Chair of the Board.
Professor Saini grew up in India and holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Physiology from the University of Adelaide in Australia. He is fluent in English, French, Hindi and Punjabi.

Mr. Peter Guidote, Senior Wealth Advisor & Senior Portfolio Manager, Canaccord Genuity Corp.
Peter joined Canaccord Genuity in April 2021. Prior to joining Canaccord Genuity, Peter had been at Richardson Partners Financial since 2004 as one of the founding members in the Montreal branch, and with CIBC Wood Gundy since 1994.
Peter founded one of the first online shopping companies in Quebec in 1988, partnering with Bell Canada. He received the Quebec Young Entrepreneurs of the Year Award. He also founded a school for professional training that prepared hundreds of students to qualify as Certified General Accountants.
His team specializes in advising individuals approaching retirement and creating tailor-made retirement portfolios to provide sustainable lifelong income for retirees.
A graduate of both Concordia and McGill University, Peter is also a Chartered Accountant having qualified at Price Waterhouse. He holds the titles of Investment Management Analyst from the Wharton School, Certified Financial Planner, Certified Investment Manager and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. In addition to being a licensed Portfolio Manager, Peter is one of a handful of Canadians who is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary. Boundaries and Self-Care
Shannon Walsh, Ps. Ed.
Local Wellness Advisor, Team Lead at The Student Wellness Hub, McGill University
With a Master’s degree in Educational and Counselling Psychology from McGill, studies in spiritual, and emotion-focused therapy, conscious parenting, and mindfulness-based practice, Shannon began her career working in the field of eating disorders at The Douglas Hospital. Moving on to school counselling, Shannon found a home at The Study, an all-girls, private school in Montreal where she served students, and their families as Teen and Parent Coach, and Coordinator of the school’s Life Skills’ program for over a decade. Shannon has provided trainings on prioritizing self-care for school administrators, staff and faculty in a variety of school and conference settings. Shannon has also worked in private practice as a therapist before joining The Student Wellness Hub 5 years ago. Going for Gold – Certification with Excellence Canada
Johanne Houle, Director Organizational Development, McGill University
Johanne Houle joined McGill as the Director of Organizational and Staff Development in 2008. Her passion for learning and development – both individually and systemically, led her to a Masters in Human Systems Intervention and PhD course work involving developing Learning Organizations in Higher Education. Johanne is a certified coach, trainer, change management consultant and holistic health volunteer teacher supporting transformational programs that blend the best of the East and the West, and the theoretical with the experiential. Robin Glance
Robin Glance is a McGill graduate and registered dietitian with over 15 years of clinical experience. She has a private practice where she works with clients of all ages to help improve both food habits and relationships with food. Robin takes a non-diet approach to counseling and does not believe in strict rules or deprivation. Robin has appeared on Global, Breakfast Television, CJAD and CBC Radio as a nutritional expert. Professor Henry Mintzberg & Professor Susan Mintzberg
Henry Mintzberg is a writer and educator, mostly about managing originations, developing managers, and rebalancing societies (his current focus). After receiving his doctorate from the MIT Sloan School of Management, he has made his professional home in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Montreal, where he sits in the Cleghorn Chair of Management Studies, with extensive stints along the way in England and France. He has authored 21 books which have earned him 21 honorary degrees and an offficership in the Order of Canada. He publishes a regular blog, a collection of which was published as Bedtime Stories for Managers. He co-founded the International Masters Program for Managers (impm.org) and the International Masters for Health Leadership (mcgill.ca/imhl) as well as CoachingOurselves.com, all novel initiatives for managers to learn together from their own experience. Susan Mintzberg has spent the past 25 years researching and working in mental healthcare. She is currently completing a PhD at McGill’s School of Social Work, studying the impact of collaboration and expertise in healthcare, with a focus on family caregivers. Susan is trained in family therapy and social work with many years of clinical practice in community mental health. She publishes, teaches, and has been outspoken in the Canadian media on mental health, leadership, social justice, education, and shaking up the academic establishment. Dr. Chris Labos, MD, MSc-Associate
Dr. Christopher Labos is a cardiologist with a degree in epidemiology. He spends most of his time doing things that he doesn’t get paid for, like doing research, teaching, and podcasting. Occasionally, he finds time to practice as a cardiologist so he can pay his rent. He realizes that half of his research findings will be disproved in five years: he just doesn’t know which half. He is a freelance contributor for the Montreal Gazette, CJAD, and has also appeared on CBC Radio and CBC Television. To date, no one has recognized him on the street. For 20 years as the head of marketing, communications & brand at evenko, Sandra Rinaldi seemed to have it all. However, having the most sought out job, being a prominent figure in the local scene and meeting the biggest artists on the planet, didn't depict the full story.
